MORE SETTLERS' HOUSES BURNT BY THE REBELS.
(From The Wanganui Times, Novemher 19.)
At eleven o'clock la9t night, Mr. Thomas Handley reported at our office that he had just returned from , Kai Iwi, after having had the mortification of seeing his own house and those of Messrs. Moore, William Handley, Patterson, and Clery burnt down —making six in all up to the time he left. Messr3. T. Handler, Moore, Smith, Morris, and four stockmen pursued ; the Hauhaus who had set. fire to Moore's house, which Stood within gunshot of Colonel Whitmore's camp at Woodall's redoubt. Handley and party were fired upon by Whitmore's men, and obliged to beat a retreat. The force at Woodall's might as well be in town when - houses are burnt within gunshot of them. The entire country from Wanganui to within a short distance; of , New Plymouth is in the hands of the rebels, and no . effectual step? are being taken to compel the rebels to defend their own homes,
