LOSS OF £SOO A-YEAR TO NELSON PROVINCE.

(From tJie Nelson Colonist, October 27.) The proposal which was made in the House of Kt-preseutatives to strike off" from the charges against "Westlaud County £800 of i\\e Customs expenditure at Grej'mouth, and which was carried by the casting vote of the Chairman of Committee, has had the result which we expected it would have. Tho question of placing that sum against Kelson was, on the occasion of that division, h<ld in abeyance. At a subsequent sitting of the House in Committee, the sum was charged against Nelson, which is thus saddled with this additional expense, in the teetli of the fact that Weatland, by importing dutiable goods into the West Coast ports of tiiis Province, —goods which have paid duty in Hokitika,—-annually secures a large portion of what is justly Nelson's revenue. It is a most unfortunate thiug that Mr. Curtis was absent from the first division, and that he left before the Estimates were entered on at all. His oue vote would have turned the scale; as it is, his absence from his place has cost the Province £800 a-year!
