NELSON
The election of the Local Committee of Education for Nelson took place last Saturday. There was a large attendance of ratepayers, as it was desired to return some members who had on a former occasion had failed to be re-elected. The retiring members were Messrs. M. Campbell, J. Davis, I. M. Hill, and D. M. Luckie. Mr. Pollock wa3 appointed Chairman. Mr. Webb proposed Mr. Drew, whose former services ho much eulogised, and was seconded by Mr. Merrington.
Mr. Hooper proposed, and Mr. Bentley seconded, Mr. J. Percy. Mr. Him, proposed, and Mr. Percy seconded, Mr. D. M. Luckie.
Mr. Kibble proposed, and Mr. Cloxjston seconded, Mr. H. D. Jackson.
Mr. Barton proposed, and Mr. Askew seconded, Mr. B. Crisp. Mr. Percy proposed, and Mr. G. Bhce seconded, Mr. Donald Sinclair.
Mr. Nation proposed, andJMr. Everett seconded, Dr. Irvine.
Mr. Campbell proposed, and Mr. Packer seconded, Mr. I. M. Hill.
Mr. Smart proposed, and Mr. Austin seconded, Mr. M. Campbell.
On a show of hands being taken, the following ■were the results:—
Mr. Percy 40 Dr. Irvine ... ... ... 38 Mr. Sinclair 30 Mr. Luckie 24 Mr. Jackscn 18 Mr. Hill 15 Mr. Campbell .8 Mr. Crisp 6 Mr. Drew 5 The first four were declared elected. A vote of thanks to the Chairman terminated the proceedings.
