Sib, —His Honor, Alfred Sawders, Esq., the Superintendent of the Province, having declared his intention of soon resigning the importaut office he holds, we, the undersigned electors, hereby request you to consent to be nominated as a Candidate for the office which will thus become vacant, and we pledge ourselves to use our best efforts to secure your return. At a time when the attention of the Electors is directed to propositions connected with the interior developeinent of the Province, involving considerable interests and extensive operations, it appears to us to be our serious duty to endeavor to place the responsibility in the hands of a gentleman whose thoroughly practical knowledge of such undertakings will be shrewdly and energetically brought to bear on a subject of "much importance, and requiring undivided attention. The knowledge which you also possesß of till those practical details so closely connected witli the further settlement of the country, by improvod internal communication of all kinds, and your intimate acquaintance with all the past public works of the Province, and, particularly, your valuable services on the West Coast Gold-fields, administrative as well as mechanical, lead us to make this request; and we feel assured that your past connection and method of dealing with all previous questions affecting the progress of th© Province render you well fitted for the oflice of which we desire to see you the occupant.
