The Wellington Independent, after some guesses at the composition of the JNew Parliament, and the prospects of the' Stafford Ministry, winds up with a somewhat vague article, Dy naming Mr. Fit/herbert, Mr. Fitzgerald, Major Eichardson, and Mr. .T. C. [Richmond as the great men who are to lead the opposition and no doubt would like to be the successors of the Stafford Ministry!If this be the quartette erf1 political genii that are to be the bane of the ministry it certainly will be easily overthrown, for to no placemen, or pseudo-politicians did the last session of the Assembly do more damage than to the four men the Independent has named. The antecedents or political status of no other four men of any standing in the house will less bear .analysis. .It ill-becomes the Independent to talk of this or that man being the. " henchman" of this or that minister. It has not to go far back to see how fitly the name applies to itself; and as for the person at whom it throws the servile epithet, probably Mr. Stafford himself would be the first to acknowledge that it is entirely misapplied. Whether or not it is that opposition does not agree with that journal we,do not know; but the vigor that once characterised its v columna seems greatly-to have departed, for its opposition, ia mere-
