TAKAKA.
jJew Buktal Ground for Takaka.—A meeting MS held on the 11th March, Mr. G. W. Taylor in the chair, to take into consideration the desirability of jnemorialising His Honor the Superintendent for the purpose of procuring for the inhabitants of Takaka a jnore suitable spot for a burial-ground, the one now in use being considered inapplicable for such purposes, the ingress and egress to it being by a tidal ford at the mouth of the Motupipi river. The inhabitants of jhe Takaka have been detained on several occasions, owing to the tide, and consequently necessitated to inter the dead by torchlight, and at times in graves partly filled with sea-water at spring tides, owing to jtjpercolation through the sand, the present burial ground being bounded on the outside by the sea bank, and on the inside by the Motupipi mud-flat. The object of the meeting having been carried, nem. con., after a vote of thanks to the chairman, the meeting broke up.
