INTENDED ABOLITION OF THE NEWSPER POSTAGE ORDER. {From The Colonist, Tuesday, January 31.) By information received by the Airedale, we learn that what we mentioned in our last as probable respecting this tax will be carried into effect. Ministers have resolved to rescind the proclamation imposing a penny postage on each newspaper transmitted through the post, in order to submit the question of levying such a tax to the General Assembly at its next meeting, if such should then be considered necessary. In consequence of there having been no meeting of the Executive in time to issue a counter proclamation, and of the absence of the Governor, who is in Auckland, the postage proclamation, which takes effect tomorrow, must be carried out for the space of probably a fortnight, until the official notification of its withdrawal is published. Meanwhile, we shall, during the interval, continue to post this journal to subscribers as heretofore, and pay the postage without making any additional charge. ■IV"OTICE TO THE PUBLIC.
