LOCAL INTELLIGENCE.
THE SEARCH FOR THE BODY OF THE
LATE SUPERINTENDENT.
Mb. Burnett arrvied from the Buller (on Eeb. 11) by the Wallaby; he reports that although every possible search has been made for the bodies of his Honor the late Superintendent and of Joseph Cooke, who were drowned on the Buller bar, neither of the bodies had been found. For ten days the Coast between the Buller and the Mokihinui had been examined by Mr. Burnett and another person on horseback, but no appearance of either body had been discovered, although there had been a strong north-west wind which was likely to have cast ashore anything that was floating. A small square desk, which was in the boat, and which contained some books and papers for the use of the men at the mine, was found halfway between the Buller and Mokihinui, with its contents very little injured only, portions of them being wet; but this was all that was discovered. We fear, after such a lapse of time, that none of the bodies will now be recovered.
