THE NEW EMPIRE OF MEXICO.
French advices from Mexico state that Juarez had resigned the Presidency in favor of Ortega, who with other leaders, would give their allegiance to the French. The new Empire of Mexico was publicly proclaimed on the 4th January. The French Government, it is said, have agreed to leave the French expeditionary army in Mexico for three years after the authority of the Emperor, the Archduke Maximilian, has been established, and will then recall it.
During the interval, the French will assist in organising a native army, the strength of which is provisionally fixed at twelve thousand men. ••
The Trench Government will allow the Mexican Government twelve years to pay off the expenses of the expedition. The arrival of the Archduke Maximilian, with the Archduchess, was expected very shortly at Paris, prior to leaving for Mexico.
