Prince Satsuma has paid tho indemnity demanded for the murder of Mr. Richardson, and gives an assurance that he will do his best to bring the murdero-s to justice.
A great fire liaa occurred in the city of London; Hiedestruction of property caused by it is estimated at £100,000. Scarlet fever is lamentably prevalent amon* all classes in England, and is very fatal among the poorer classes. Violent gales which prevailed early in December caused an immense number of disasters by sea and land throughout England and in many parts of thecontinent. Dr. Colenso has been deposed from the office of Bishop, and prohibited from tho exercise of any divine office within any part of the Metropolitan province of Cape Town. Tho Bishoprics of Tasmania is offered to tho Rev. Canon AUwood, of Sydney. The Queen Godmother to a Maoei Baby. The infant sou of H. Pomave, one of the New Zealanders now on a visit to England, waa baptised m the district church of St. Paul, Tottenham, on Thursday, December 3; the Rev. Hugh M'Sorelv, theincumbent, officiating. Tho sponsors for the infant (about five weeks old) were the Queen (represented by Miss Margaret Rose Dealtry), Mr. Win. Dealtrv* (private secretary to his Grace the Duke of Newcastle), and Mr Arthur N. Birch (of the Colonials office). Tho infant was named, by desire of its royal godmother, Albert Victor. Mx-s. Colenso acted a» interpreter to Mrs. Pomaro in both services. Mr Dealtry recently paid a visit to Tottenham, bringing a present from her Majesty to the child. The present consists of a richly-chased goblet, knife and fork, and spoon, all of pure gold. Upon the blade of the knife is inscribed: «' To Albert Victor Pomare, from his godmother, Queen Victoria; November, 1863." Th e articles were enclosed in an elegant morocco case in which was also enclosed a £25.note. Mr. and Mrs i^mwe shortly retuvn to, tl\eir native country.—Jfc^j
