INDIA AND CHINA.
At Shanghai cholera is raging fearfully— hundreds are dying daily. Mr. Gordon has issued orders prohibiting all foreigners from travelling without a pass from him. Political relations are generally quiet. The Japanese have paid the demand of the British for 140,000 dollars. They are seemingly determined to drive out all foreigners. Preparations are being made for a civil war. ,
In Canton and Hong Kong there is abundance of tonnage, and freights are dull. At Calcutta they are improving; at Bombay depressed.
