NELSON PROVINCIAL COUNCIL.

FRIDAY, JULY 17.

The house met this morning at 11 o'clock,

BTTOTB AT THE AMTTBI.

Mr. Elliott asked the Provincial Solicitor when the Government purposed to lay down the buoys and moorings at the Amuri. He said that £500 had been spent for the purpose of buoying the Amuri in 1859, and that for the past two years the moorings and the buoys had lain on the Government Wharf. It was not probable, he supposed, when these were purchased, that they were intended to be on Nelson wharf for ever, and he should therefore like to know what was the intention of the Government respecting them.

The Provincial Solicitor had not observed the notice on the paper on Thursday, and had therefore not had time to make, enquiry, so that really he knew nothing about the matter. He thought, however, that the best time for laying down the buoys would be when the Amuri was surveyed. If Mr. Elliott would put this notice and one following on the notice paper for Tuesday, he would make enquiry by that time.

BOAD AT BEAFOBD, MABBACBE BAT.

Mr. Lewthwaite moved that his Honor the Superintendent be requested to place upon the estimates the sum of £300, for the purpose of making a road or roads in the district of Seaford. In support of his motion he spoke of the discovery of coal, and other valuable products, in this district, such as plumbago, fire-clay for making bricks to line the interior of American stoves, and clay for pottery. Seconded by Mr. Elliott.

The Provincial Somcitob opposed the motion. There was no agriculture in the district, and the road, if made, would only lead to Mr. Lewthwaite's coal mine. It was not wanted. Last year £200 was voted to meet equivalent subscriptions for this object, and not a penny was subscribed. Mr. Lewthwaite, in reply, denounced the ungracious, untoward, and unjust action of the Government in regard to Seaford; and he denied the statement of the Provincial Solicitor, that there was no agriculture in the district. It grew splendid cabbages (laughter), and they were entirely free from

the blight which prevented their growth in nearly all other districts of the province. The motion was negatived.
