HOPE AND RANZAU.
Education Committee.—On Monday, the 29th instant, the election of the Local Committee under tlie Education Act, 1856, took place in this district. Notwithstanding, a very disagreeable day, a pretty fair sprinkling of the householders of the Hope and Rbizau District presented themselves at the Ranzau School Room. Mr. E. Humphries being called to the chair, briefly stated the object of the meeting; Mr. Kearris, the chairman of the late local committee, gave a detailed account of the financial proceedings of the committee for the past twelve months; though not required by the act, he considered that such information should be supplied to the voters present. He also stated that the Central Board had placed a sum of money to the credit of the committee for the erection of a school house in the district, which had been much needed for a long time. Tenders were consequently advertised for, and received on the 20th June, when the tender of Mr. Home was accepted. Mr. W...C. Hodgson was highly spoken of for the interest he had taken in the matter, as was also Mr. Weyergang, the late representative to the Central Board. A vote of thanks was then givon to the late committee for their services. The following householders were then nominated as candidates, viz., Hessrs. Kearns, Herrick, Dencker, Eden, Jno. Win, Tietjen, Wm. Win, Jessop, Home, Coleman, and E. Humphries. A debate arose as to the best method of polling, which ended in the ballot with the following result. That Messrs.
