[The following notice was omitted from last number in consequence of the " copy" having accidentally fallen aside.] . Assault bx a Native at Motueka.—Munu, an aboriginal native residing at Wakarenui,. was accused of assaulting Reupena Tahana, another native. It appeared that defendant had been assaulting his wife at Motueka on the Ist June, tlirowing her clown and kicking her, whereby one of her ribs was broken. Reupena went and took hold of him, whereupon Munu knocked him down. A struggle followed, in which Munu got a stroke in the face which bled his nose. He then went into the house, and came out again with an axe and struck at witness, with both hands on the axe hilt. Reupena saved liimself by stooping, and the handle hit him on the shoulder. From other evidence it would appear that there had been some little jealousy on the part of the prisoner, which may have led to the assault. The Magistrate found the defendant guilty, and ordered him to find security, himself in £20 and two sureties in £10 each, to keep the peace for twelve months. A householder in Bridge-street was fined 10s. for allowing his chimney to get on fire.
