OBSTRUCTION,
To the Editor of the Colonist. Sir —Through the medium of your journal I wish to call the attention of the members of the Council and the Government to the manner in which the road and the terminus of the Wharf are blocked up. For a great put ofthe day it is nearly impossible to pass with any degree of safety. I am glad, of course, to see the traffic at the wharf increase, and hope that the Government will see the necessity of widening the road (now only about half a chain wide) to about 100 feet, and moving the offices, &c. hack. There are now three lines of r«ilt»ay, and the best part of the day come 30 or 40 tons of goods, drays standing to load, traps waiting for and landing passengers, ballast trncks, coal carts, chrome waggons, tanks, timber, water and sugar casks, porter bntts, the ordinary Haven-road for traffie,a footpath for pa9eenger9; ana out of what spaeidoyou think, Mr. Editor? of course you 'giv*it up.' Why, 40 by GO. I can hardly expect you to believe it ; but I wish you would go and see, and perhaps you would treat us to a paragraph on the matter. I am aware that some new regulations are about to be made, to remedy some of the nuisances—such as the loading of the Wharf with 300 or 400 tons of ballast, and as many more of coals and chrome ; not that I would object to as much more if there was room, but there is not; nor is there a satV gangway for the public to pass on business. It appears very plain to me that unless this state of disorder is remedied, loss of limbs and liftis inevitable (unless the traffic decreases, which insufficient accommodation is iikety to effect). Believing this to be a subject which should engage the attention of the Council at its present sitting, I am, &c, ANTI-CONFUSION.
