CRICKET.
.ALL ENGLAND ELEVEN AT BALLAARAT. First Day—Thursday, March 6. Owing to the thunderstorm of last night the cricket ground was not in very good order this morning, and the match was delayed for a short time. In theafternoon the weather was fine and the ground in good playing condition. The attendance was small at first, but at lunch time about 2000 spectators were in the inclosure, and the high ground outside was crowded with people. The Ballaarat twenty-two were first sent to the wickets, and made the following score :— Twenty-two of Ballaarat —First Innings. But the second inninga of the Eleven is not given in the Melbourne Weekly Herald, from which we quote, ALL ENGLAND ELEVEN v. TWENTY-TWO OF VICTOEIA. This match was set apart for a benefit to the Eleven, being the last one to be played before their departure from Australia. The price of admission to the ground was decided by the Eleven to be 2s. Gd. This was thought too much by many, particularly after the dose of cricket which the Victorians have swallowed during the last three months. However, the Eleven argued that the match was the wind-up of their career in the colony, and also set apart as a benefit to themselves, and that the people of Victoria and the lovers of cricket would be glad to see the match, and as it was for their benefit, take that opportunity of subscribing towards it. Their surmises were right for at the close of the game on the first day there were between 3000 and 4000 persons on the ground ; on the second day between 4000 and 5000 ; and on the third day nearly 9000. His Excellency Sir Henry Barkly, accompanied by Sir Richard MacDonnell, and Captain Bancroft visited the ground. The second day's fielding on the part of the Twentytwo was wretched ; four or five catches were missed, and balls allowed to pass in every direction. Had they been more careful they might have claimed the game: as it is tho match is a drawn one. With this exception the fielding on both sides was firstrate. The following is the score.
