WELLINGTON.
NEW ZEALAND SOCIETY. * A meeting of the members of the New Zealand Society was held at the Society's Rooms, Wellington, on Wednesday, the lOih August. ' Present—Messrs. W. M. Bannatyne, W. Bishop, C. D. Barraud, S. E. Grimstone, R. Hart, G. Hart, N. Levin, W. Lyon, John Wallace, J. H. Wallace, J. Woodward, John Telford, and W. L. Buller (Hon. Seel. Robert Hart, Esq.,. called to the chair. Minutes of the last meeting read and confirmed. A communication was made by the Secretary to the effect that the deputation appointed to wait on his Honor the Superintendent had obtained his consent to a transfer of the property of the late New Zealand Society, and that his Honor had pointed out to them a commodious room on the upper floor of the Provincial Government Offices as being at the service of the Society for the purposes of a Museum; and that he (the Secretary) had thereupon proceeded to furnish the room with the necessary fittings,.and to deposit the Society's collection therein. He stated, moreover, that he had entered.into correspondence.with the Curators of the Sydney, Melbourne, Hobart ;Town, and Adelaide Museums, with * a view to establish a system of interchange in duplicate or spare specimens. After some discussion on the subject ofthe reorganisation of the Society, it was moved by Mr. Woodward, and seconded by Mr. Levin— ~., That a Committee be appointed to make Rules and to take order for the organisation of the New Zealand Society. ', ' Moved, as an amendment, by Mr. J. H. Wallace, and seconded by Mr. Grimstone—^ That the meeting now convened do. proceed at once to adopt the Rules of tlie late New Zealand Society. '.' Amendment put to the meeting and lost. Original motion parried. Moved by Mr. Bannatyne, and seconded by Mr. George Hart — < That the same do consist "ofthe: Chairman, Messrs. Lyoni Moore, Woodward, and the Secretary. Carried. After some remarks by the Chairman touching the Society's Museum, it was moved by Mr. Bannatyne, seconded by Mr. John Wallace, and carried unanimously—That the thanks of this meeting are due to Mr. W. L. Buller for the great pains he has taken in preparing the Museum for the reception of the variousspecimens belonging to the New Zealand Society, and thoy beg to offer their acknowledgments to him for the same. Mr. Woodward informed the meeting that Captain Rhodes (Treasurer to the late Society), had stated to him that he had still in his hands a small balance of the Society's funds; and that he was ready to hand the same over to any person appointed by hi3-Honor the Superintendent to re-, ceive it. Two gentlemen were then proposed as members, Moved by Mr. George Hart, seconded by Mr. CD. Barraud— .. That, this meeting do stand adjourned to Wednesday, tlie 17th instant. — New Zealand Spectator.
