Entrance fee, 10s. To start gt 12 o'clock, noon. Distance, 20 miles. A MATCH between vessels of 50 tons and under. for the NELSON CHALLENGE CUP, value 60 guineas, to be sailed for in Blind Bay, at the NELSON ANNUAL REGATTAS, by boata not • exceeding 50 tons, belonging to any of the New Zealand Provinces. A prize of £10 10s. will be awarded to the winner of this match for the first time. Entrance fee, £3. The matches for the Cup to be sailed in accordance with the rules of the Nelson Yacht Club, under the direction of the Sailing Committee for the time being: The distance, out and home, not to exceed 20 miles. A quarter of a minute per ton allowed to all vessels of inferior tonnage. The bona fide owner of a comSeting boat from any of the sister provinces will be eemed an honorary member of the Club for the occasion, and, as such, be entitled to all its privileges. The Cup to be awarded to the owner of the boat that shall be declared the winner of the match for two seasons. The race to be finished by sunset, or again contested on the Tuesday following. To start at 2 p.m. Distance, 2 miles. A MATCH between all 2-0 A RED BOATS not exceeding 20 feet keel, for £1010s. Second boat, £3. Entrance fee, 15s. , To start at 3 p.m. Distance, 1 mile. - A ROWING MATCH, between DINGLES not exceeding 13 feet keel, to be pulled by one man with ■ a pair of skulls. The winner of the Match for the " Challenge Cup" to allow the other vessels of less tonnage an additional quarter of a minute per ton. No time for tonnage in this match. Entrance fee, 158. To start at 4 p.m. Distance, 2 miles. Under canvas. A MATCH between all DINGIES, not exceeding 15 feet keel. First dingy, £3; Second ditto, £1 10a. Entrance fee, ss. REGULATIONS. No person not a subscriber of at least 10s. to the Regatta Fund will be allowed to enter a boat for any Match. No open boat to be allowed to sail for the Challenge or Yacht Club Cup. , ■ f No sliding-keel yachts will be allowed to enter. I All racing boats shall keep the flag-boate and other I distinguishing marks on the port hand. All yachts may' carry any and what sail they please, but will not be allowed to use oars, or throw ballast overboard after starting. All water ballast to be fresh; no sand or shifting ballast to be allowed whatever. Boats on the port tack to bear up for boats on the starboard tack. Boats running free to keep away for boats on a wind. Any boat wilfully fouling another to be considered distanced. Each boat in the various matches to carry a distin- . guishing flag (at least, a foot square), to be named on * entering, and which must, in sailing vessels, be kept flying durinjj the race. . . , ' \ All yachts and sailing boats must have all sail on » deck at the time of the firing of the gun for starting. A distinguishing flag will be hoisted at the peak of the starting vessel, to denote which match is' about to commence, viz.:—First race, No. 1 Marryatt's Code, and so on. ' - . The gun for starting will be fired precisely at the hour named, when the distinguishing flag will be immediately hauled down. Disputes occurring in any match must be made < known to the umpire at the conclusion of the race. I The decision of the umpire, assisted by the com- 1 mittee, in all matters shall be final. .7. \ In drawing for stations, No. 1 will take choice, and the rest in rotation. _ ... ' The COUNCIL of GOVERNORS is prepared to give SIX EXHIBITIONS in the above Institution, tenable for one year, pending fresh arrangements, and of the value of £15 each. These Exhibitions will be awarded to lads whose parents or guardians reside more than four miles from the College; and every candidate will be required to be able to read fluently, to write with tolerable accuracy from dictation, and to work the four first rules .of arithmetic. . These Exhibitions will be liable to be forfeited by irregular attendance, insubordination, or improper conduct.
