(From the Southern Cross, November 13.) Banquet to the 58th Rbgiment.—The soldiers of the 58th were entertained yesterday at a farewell banquet by the citizens of Auckland. The tables were spread, by permission of the military authorities, in the .Barrack green, and upwards of 200 soldiers and civilian!.-, the former including, we believe, nearly all who arc leaving for England, sat down to them at three o'clock. Tents were pitched and colors hoisted, and the ecene was altogether picturesque. Mr. Forsaith was in the chair, and proposed the health of the Regiment, and from Major Thompson's remarks ia returning thanks seemed to know more of the achievements of the corps than the corps itself. We need hardly say that the toast was heartily : drunk. We observed the Superintendent and a great number of the leading townspeople present, and the crowd of visitors was quite fair like. .We believe that those in whose honor the banquet was held really enjoyed themselves. We saw Mr. Crombie on a, photographic battery taking a shot at the proceedings, and the 58th stood it as coolly as we know they would have stood a discharge from a Russian battery. We understand this was done at the request of the Managing Committee. Trip of the Lord Worsley.—The excursion trip of the above vessel came off on Wednesday last, upwards of 250 persons being on board. The steamer left about 10 a.m., and ran down to Coroinandel, where she anchored sufficiently long to give those who wished it an opportunity of a short run ashore, and was again at tiie pier before 10 o'clock p.m. She made a good run, though the engineers seemed by no means contented with the coal (Australian Newcastle), which was the first colonial coal they had tried. We natter ourselves they will find New Zealand coals an improvement on it. Tiie speed averaged 10 knots. The crowd was almost too great for a pleasure excursion; and the rain was rather unfortunate; and New Zealand crowds get noisy. But everything was done by Captain Johnson and his officers, and we must add the steward's staff, to promote the comfort of the excursionists.
