I oanna tell how saft the tint That sparkles in her bonnio e'o, I only ken, the deuce is in't, I tremble when she leers at me *, Th^tamor o' her shining hair, The magic of her form o' gr&ce— The angels kist her, I declare, An' left their glory on her face!
I ken the heart may c'en a' feel ■ Until its joy ia amaist pain, An' ilka throb may unco weel Rehearse the hopes <that fill my am ; I kent her skipping ©wer th' lea, like lammie friskiii' did she seem, An' ilka motion lodkt to me, As moonrays dancing ower a stream.
0 muckle noo do I lament, Ail1 fasli mysel' lest she forget The troths we made, the hours we spent— But hush my heart!—ye'Jl hae her yet! Yell hae her yet, for heaven is kind, An' ilka loving hearts will bless,— ■So noo I leave my fears behind, An' gie my heart to Bonnio Bess.
