Correspondence.
Tq the Editor of the Colonist. '■ STB,T-Havingread in the* Examiner certain statements made by the Motueka Correspondentl (who, it appears to me, must be a "green hand," or he would know that statements made without any regard to correctness, but merely for the purpose of attacking the Superintendent, would not be allowed to pass unnoticed), I have had the curiosity to go to the Superintendent's office to ascertain if the statements made were correct, and I now give you the result of my enquiry. - '
First. The Motueka jetty was built during Mr. Stafford's, Superintendency, in accordance with specifications made by the then Commissioner of Publicy Works (Mr. Dobson), and not, as stated by the Motueka Correspondent, during the first reign of the present Superintendent. And tlie alterations now in contemplation are to be in, accordance with specifications dra-jra up.by the, Commissioner of Public Works' (Mr. Brunner), x who, I have no doubt,.understands more about that kind of work than the Mud-awake Correspondent.
Secondly. The memorial which the correspondent states " was signed by 20 or 30 persons, and riot answered," was signed by seven persons only, and a reply was sent thereto, addressed to the Rev. Mr,, Tudor and others (Mr. Tudor being the first of the seven.) Should any person doubt the-.accuracy of the above statements, I dare say the documents will be shewn to them on application at Barrack-square. I am, Sir, your most obedient servant, RECTIFIER.
