DEAL GENTLY.

Dkal gently .with earth's erring ones, for strong was thefired spall, Tiic snake-like charm of the Syren tones, that lured thsin when they foil; Tha ctorkiies.! of Egyptian night,' when the tempter mowed his power, And battling hosts of wrong and right through that, long and fearful hour. ■ D>al gently with the' sinning soul, for the breath of unlawful ire Serves but to fan the guilty flames of its wild unholy fire; One drop alone from pity'B stream may help to quench its burning, One rescuing hand of holy lovo may aid the soul's returning. Deal gently with the broken heart, it hath enough to bear With its inner load of bitterness and pangs of dire despair; It needeth not the gibing word, or looks of haughty scorn, To probe afresh the aching wounds that, misery hath torn. Deal gently with the infant life though found midst ' the neglected, For nigged will its pathway be—the lot of the rejected; And costly is the gem it holds, untarnished by a name, More precious than the stars that burn upon night's sapphire plain. Deal gently with decaying age, that has reached its winter's snow, It hath toiled long o'er a chequered road and h»s not far to go; Nor stern reproof nor act unkind should ruffle its little way,— Let the strength and help of earlier light smile on its closing day. Deal gently when men injure thoe, for prejudico and wrong Will fall abashed before the lore that makes the injured strong : There is no heart so adamant that kindness cannot soften, There are no frozen depths of ill that pardon leaves unbroken. Deal gently with thy fellow-man, each brow as well as ihino "Bears the high impress of a seal stamped by the hand Divine; Respect its rights, so when thy spirit parts from the things of senss, 'Twill find a record of its love in Heaven's remembrance.
