NOTICES OF MOTION.
Wednesday. 6th January, 1858. Mr. Mackay to move — 1. That Monday be a sitting day of; he Council, and that the hour of meeting be three o'clock p.m., instead of five, as at present. 2. That a committee be appointed for the session, to be called the Standing Orders Committee; that it be the duty of the said committee to prepare such standing orders as they may, from time to time, deem advisable to be adopted by the Council; and that the Committee do report the same, as they may see occasion or be rerequired by the Council: the committee to consist of the Speaker, the Provincial Solicitor, Dr. Monro, Mr. Saunders, Mr. Elliott, and theinover. 3. That a committee be appointed to consider the best method of conducting the printing of the; •"- the Council: the said committee to consist of the Speaker, the Provincial Solicitor,' Dr. Monro, Mr. Elliott, Mr. Wells, Mr. Curtis, Mr. Parker, and the mover. 4.-That, in the opinion of this Council, no public accountant or government officer should be appointed an auditor of the Provincial accounts. I 5. That his Honor the Superintendent be requested to transmit, for the information of the ' Council, the particulars of the contract for making the cattle track, with a rough sketch of the same, between the Wairau River and the Waitohi. 6. That his Honor the Superintendent be requested to furnish the Council with a return, showing the date, situation, and cost of erecting of the several pounds in the province, and the number of animals impounded in them, and also the amount of fees received by the Provincial Treasurer for each separately. 7. Mr. Mackay, to ask the Provincial Secretary— If it is the intention of the Government to introduce a bill this session to amend the Impounding Ordinance. The Provincial Solicitor, to move for leave to introduce — 1. "A Bill to declare that certain Bills reserved for the signification of the Governor's pleasure, shall be deemed to have passed on tne day of the passing of this Act." 2. To "move the appointment of two Auditors of the public accounts of the province. Mr. Sharp to ask— The Provincial Solicitor whether any, or, if any, what steps have been taken by the Provincial Government to ascertain whether the available pasture land lately discovered in the Hurunui district is within the boundary of the province. Dr. Monro, to move— For a copy of the late Superintendent's despatch to the General Government covering Provincial Council Enlargement Ordinance. The resolutions of Council founded on the foregoing notices, with the brief remarks of the different members, will be given in our next issue. Tuesday, 12th January. Mr. Mackay, to move— 1. That his Honor the Superintendent be requested to furnish the Council with a return, showing the date, situation, and cost of erecting of the several pounds in the province, and the number of animals impounded in them, and also the amount of fees received by the Provincial Treasurer for each separately. 2. The Provincial Secretary to move — That the Council resolve into committee to take into consideration the Address of his Honor the Superintendent. Mr. Mackay, to move— 1. That a Select Committee be appointed to consider the state and management of all the public departments of the Province, with power to call for persons and papers; the committee to consist of the Speaker, Dr. Monro, Mr. Wells, Mr. Curtis, Mr. Saunders, Mr. Kelling, and the mover. s 2. (When the Estimates are under consideration) That the items under the head of Provincial Council Establishment for pay in consideration of services by members of the Council, be struck out. 3. For a return showing the number of acres of land sold in Massacre Bay in 1857, with the amount received for the same; and also a return showing the amount of money expended by the Provincial Government in the said district during the last three years.
4. For a return showing the amount of passage money owing to the Immigration Commissioners by assisted immigrants,- with the names of the defaulters and their sureties. Dr. Monro to move— - For a return showing the amount of land sold in the province, and the value received for the same since March, 1853, the return to be made up to the Ist January in each year, excepting v wliere a change of system was introduced, and to be so drawn up as to exhibit the «lass of land sold in the district in which situated, and the consideration received, whether cash or scrip. . Mr. Elliott to move — The appointment of a Library Committee, which shall be instructed to frame regulations for allowing the books contained in the library of the Council to circulate among the members: the committee to consist of the Speaker, Dr. Monro, Mr. Saunders, the Provincial Secretary, and the „ mover. The Provincial Secretary to move— For leave to bring in " a Bill to provide for the sale, letting, disposal, and occupation of the waste lands of the Crown in the Province of Nelson." Also, a Bill to regulate the occupation of the Gold Fields in the Province of Nelson, The Provincial Solicitor, to m ove— For leave to bring in " a Bill to authorise the Superintendent of the Province of Nelson to raise a Loan not exceeding £29,000 by the issue of Debentures." Also, " a Bill to authorise the Superintendent to borrow the sum of £3000, to be appropriated by the Central Board of Education in building schools and school houses. .
