THE WANT /OF ANOTHER NEWSPAPER ip the Province being manifest;, several gentlemen^ formed themselves into a Provisional Committee, and, aftar carefully considering the subject, called a, Public Meeting, which was held on the 10th ot AugusUast, when the following persons were appointed 'a Committee :—Messrs. Akeisten, Wilkie, Luck, Goodman, M. Lightband, and Hill, nhich committee have much-pleasure in submitting to the public the following prospectus: — The papor, to be named the Colonist, will be devoted to-the special spread-of Science, Literature, the Arts, Agriculture, and Commerce; it will be the strenuous *dvocatoof Civil and Religious Libertjvand the uncompromising defender of the People's Political Rights. The Colonist vi\\ ally itself with neither class nor sect, *nd will fearlessly oppose all attempts at party le'irial&tion-.."Measures, not men," being its maxim. 'The. columns of the Colonist will be open to the free discussion and elucidation of all questions on Political Econpmy and Social Reform, when written m a temperate and non-personal spirit. The Committee will endeavour to make the lolonitt an excellent Advertising or' Commercial medium. Subscriptions to be repaid by equal instalments 'within one, two, and three years.
