T&Etf SLEET THE LAST OF SLUMBERS; r LINES SUGGESTED BY THE WRECK OF THE " DUNBATt." They had riear'd the looked for haven; And no sad'ning fear came o'er them; But hope rose high, as they thought of those They'd meet on that shore before them. I Many a voice was hailing, Many, mingling, rose to greet them ,From the lips of those who waited there--. With what thrilling hearts i—to meet them; Long, each eye, that ship was seeking)— O'er the wave so proudly riding; But a broken beani, and floating spar Bore a silent, fatal tiding. , Then from each heart departed, The hopes it had fondly cherish'd,— '- For many amidst that fearful wreck Were the brave and true who perish'd! ... The winds their death-sigh stole away,While the flashing surge swept round them;' And with bloodless lip, and pulseless heart Each sorrowing kinsman found them. Many a face was sought there, Many burning tears were flowing On still; cold forms, —a few hours beToYe' With the heart's warm life-blood glowing I In the silent.earth together,— As they perish'd—so they laid them; And each one wept of that mourning throng As the last sad rites were paid them. They Bleep the last of slumbers, — Which knowi only One awaking)— Around their spirits & fa?rer World, A holier light is breaking I ZOILA.
