T6 STHE INHABITANTS OF THE PROVINCE ■: ■ ' OF NELSON. rpHE WANT OF ANOTHER NEWSX PAPER in the Province being manifest, several gentlemen formed themselves into a Provisional Committee, and, after carefully considering the subject, ealW&a Public Meeting, which was held on the IQfch of August!**, when the following persons were appointed a Committee :-~ltfessrs. Akersten, Wilkie, Enc*. Goodman, M. Lightband, and Hill, which committee have much pleasure in submitting to the public the following prospectus :—■ The paper, to be named the Gdomst, will be devoted to the medal spread of Science, Literature, the Arts, Agricnltare, anxl Commerce; it wiU be the strenuous advocate of Civil and Religious Liberty and the uneompromMng defender of the People's Political RsK'cblMittwffi ally itself with neither class nor wet and *ill fearlessly oppose all attempts at party Jejridailon-" Measures, not men," boing its maxim. The columns of the Colonitt will be open to the free discussion and elucidation of all questions on Political ' v Economy and Social Reform, when written in a temperate and non-personal spirit. The Committee will endeavour to make the Colonist an excellent Advertising or Commercial medium. Subscriptwra to be repaid by equal instalments within one, two, and three years.
