Local News.
It appears that the concluding paragraph of our report r oii- the laying of the foundation-stone of the new Wesley an Chapel has excited the displeasure of of our Wesleyan friends. We confess we have been somewhat surprised to hear that sectarian jealousy prompted the publication of the few harmless words made use of. Such was not, arid most sincerely do we hope never will be, the case. The fact is that two distinct reports of the proceedings were furnished us; and the one published was selected because of its conciseness. The writer of that report is in no way connected with either the Wesleyan or Baptist Churches, and certainly, so far as we may be allowed to judge, could not be influenced by any spirit of illiberality. However, we can but regret that unpleasant feelings should have been created by anything which may have appeared in the columns of the Colonist^ feeling confident, as we do, that every one at the meeting referred to did all that was in their power, not only to render that meeting profitable, but edifying.
