The General Wool had contrary winds nearly the whole of the passage. On Tuesday night ast the foreyard arm broke, coming down with a fearful crash; hut fortunately no damage was done. She brings a considerable number of diggers for our goldfields. The John M'Viear, arrived at Wellington, has brought the following cargo for Nelson:—l case, D. Munro; 11 hales, Nicholson and Riding: 1 bale, E. Buxton, 1 caso, W. It. Carter, 10 half-casks brandy, 2 hogsheads 14 quarter-casks wine, 1 quarter-cask rum, Curtis Brothers; 1 box, Mrs. Hitchcock, 16 cases, N. Edwards and Co.; 20 hogsheads Whitbread's beer, 20 hogsheads Salt's ale, N. Edwards and Co.— N. Edwards and Co,, agents. The Wonga Wonga, from Wellington, had a very long passage round, strong westerly winds prevailing in the Straits. She lay in the Sound from Monday— the day of her leaving Wellington—till Wednesday night', and came through the French Pass. The representative at Sydney of the E. and A. Company had published a notification to the effect that owing to the disabled condition of the European, the steamship City of Sydney (belonging to the A.S.N. Company) would be despatched for Suez, with her Majesty's mails on the 11th instant. The ship John M' Vicar, 648 tons register, William Allen, commander, sailed from Plymouth on the 6th August, 1857, and arrived in Wellington on the 12th November, 1857, having made the passage in 97 days. She left after the barque Gleaner and ship Ashburton, neither of which vessels have arrived here yet. She brings out almost a full cargo for this Port, having ouly about 25 tons on board for Nelson-; also, 7 cabin, 4 second cabin, and 11 steerage passengers for Wellington; and 25 cabin, 14 second cabin, and 4 steerage passengers, for Nelson. Four deaths occurred, all ohi'dren; and a seaman named George Buckman fell overboard during a gale of wind, She had a very .fine run out, and the pasaengers speak in the highest terms of the captain, docter, and the treatment they received. This splendid ship is one of Messrs. Arthur Willis, Gann, & Cds well known line of packets. The Cresswell was laid on by the same firm, to sail for Wellington direct early in September.— -New Zealand Spectator, Nov. 14.
