*|itWit ftatices, ~ ~ PROSPECTUS. TO THE INHABITANTS OF THE PROVINCE ■ OF NELSON. THE WANT OF ANOTHER NEWSPAPER in the Province being manifest, several eentleinen formed themselves into a Provisional Committee, and/after carefully considering the subject, called a Public Meeting, which was held on the 10th of August last, when the following persons were appointed a Committee :—Messrs. Akersten, Wilkie, Luck, Goodman, M. Lightband, and Hill, which committee have much pleasure in submitting to tho public the following prospectus:— The paper, to be named the Colonist, will be devoted to the special spread of Science, Literature, the Arts, Agriculture, and Commerce; it will be the strenuous advocate of Civil and Religious Liberty, and the uncompromising defender of the People's Political The Colonist will ally itself with neither class nor Beet, and will fearlessly oppose all attempts at party legislation—" Measures, not men," being its maxim. The columns of the Colonist will be open to the free discussion and elucidation of all questions on Political Economy and Social Reform, when written in a temperate and non-personal spirit. The Committee will endeavour to make the Colonist an excellent Advertising or Commercial medium. Subscriptions to be repaid by equal instalments within one, two, and three years. The Committee, in inviting co-operation, can assure the public that no means will be spared to render the columns of the Colonist instructive, useful, and worthy the patronage of the Community. The first number of the Colonist will be published on Friday, October 23rd, 1857, and will continue to be published every Tuesday and Friday morning. Subscribers' names and advertisements will be received by the Printer, Publisher, and Proprietor, W Nation, Haven Road, near the Custom House; Messrs. Akersten, Luck, Goodman, Wilkie, or by any of the Committee. ~'-■'*• Cash terms of Advertising:—Two lines, Is.; four lines, 25.; six lines, 35.; eight lines, 45.; and dd. (three-pence) per line for every additional line for each insertion. - Subscription:—los. per Quarter. All advertisements under six lines will be charged 3s. to advertiser's account, if booked.
