NATIONAL DANCING
SUCCESSFUL COMPETITIONS FIRST FUNCTION OF TE AWAMUTU ASSOCIATION The first Highland National Dancing competitions held under the auspices of the Te Awamutu Highland Dancing Association took place in the Town Hall on Saturday afternoon. There was a large attendance of the public who were treated to an excellent afternoon’s spectacle of dancing by competent and charming young dancers. The judge was Mrs Connell, of Tauwhare and she said the dancing was of a good standard. Mrs Connell made special mention of the excellent manner in which their t teacher, Miss Elaine North, had in- 4, structed the dancers who had received competent tuition. Members of the Te Awamutu and District Highland Pipe Band provided the music and the band played with confidence, which in turn communicated itself to the dancers. The secretary, Mrs R. North, assisted by a very energetic committee, did much to make the competitions a success and they are to be warmly commended for their unselfish and untiring efforts. The ladies who dispensed refreshments during the day also spared no efforts to make for the pleasure of the patrons and they succeeded in a large measure. It is intended to make the competitions an annual event and there i? no doubt but that future fixtures will be looked forward to with pleasurable feelings of anticipation and they will be as successful as last Saturday’s.
