BEAUTIFYING AFFAIRS

REQUESTS TO BOROUGH COUNCIL BASKETBALL COURTS AND ALBERT PARK The Beautifying Society in a letter that was before Monday night’s meeting of the Borough Council stated:— Basketball Courts As you know members of my Society have put in a considerable amount of work in beautifying the. surroundings of the Basketball Courts. The grass on the banks of the river have been scythed and require cutting with the Gravely mower. I am directed to ask the council if it would have the grass cut. We would ask that the work be carried out under the direction of Mr W. Melville.

It is desired to topdress the area with black soil. However a sewe.r trench which has not been completely filled in makes it impossible to get a truck in and I will be glad if you would have the filling in of the trench completed as soon as possible. Albert Park The Society has for some time carried out a scheme of beautifying the frontages of Albert Park. A large number of trees and shrubs have been planted many of which are now well grown. The effect would be enhanced considerably if the grass at the George Street entrance was kept cut. This is not a very large area and should be easily kept in order. The Society would be grateful if the council could see its way to carry out this work.

Cr Williams who is president of the society said that the working bee would do the work in regards the. basketball area. Cr Quick stressed the need for the sewerage work being done expeditiously, so that the electrical installation could be proceeded with.

The town clerk said that the sewer would have to be connected with new sewer and a great deal would depend on when the contractors would complete that portion of the sewer and the contractors were doing their best to finish the work shortly. In regards Albert Park it was decided to have the suggested work done.
