MILK POWDER
FUTURE PROSPECTS CHANGING MARKET HINTED AT The position of the market for dried milk products was changing as other countries were increasing their production of liquid milk enormously, commented Mr A. G. Alexander, chairman of the Waikato District Pig Council and chairman of directors of the Morrinsville Co-operative Dairy Company, Ltd., when speaking at a pig field day at the Horotiu works of the Auckland Farmers’ Freezing Company on Wednesday. The market for milk powder, said Mr Alexander, was not as strong as it was. The prospects for pig production were better from a long-term viewpoint than they were for dried milk, particularly if there was any marked expansion of dried milk production. There were big surplus stocks of dried milk products in America, and it was fortunate for such countries as New Zealand that there was a shortage of dollars. He would not be prepared to say, continued Mr Alexander, what the position would be when the present contracts expired. Security would be perhaps better found in pig production from a long term point of view than in the manufacture of dried milk products.
