FEBRUARY AVERAGES
AUCKLAND HERD IMPROVEMENT ASSOCIATION
EFFECTS OF DROUGHT SHOWN
The February averages for this season as compiled by the Auckland Herd Improvement Association have ju£t come to hand. Evidence of the serious repercussions of the prolonged drought which was sustained by the Auckland province and the Waikato is shown by the figures given. A drop of just over 4lbs of butterfat per cow in comparison to the same period for last year is recorded. Milk production dropped by an average, of 841bs per cow for the month compared with February last year. The figures for the association’s area are as follows:
2437 herds totalling 140391 cows, averaged 4951bs of milk with a test ci 5.22 and 25.81bs of fat per cow for February last. In comparison, 2169 herds totalling 122,229 cows averaged 5791bs of milk with a test of 5.18 and 30ibs of fat per cow in February, 1949. Local Group Averages
Local group averages for February are as follows:
Hairini—27 herds totalling 1963 cows averaged 5081 bs of milk with a test of 5.16 and 291bs of fat per cow. The highest herd containing 85 cows averaged 381bs of fat per cow. Kaipaki—3l herds totalling 1922 cows averaged 5421bs of milk with a test of 5.10 and 281bs of fat per cow. The highest herd containing 36 cows averaged 401bs of fat per cow. Kawhia—lo herds totalling 400 cows averaged 4701bs of -milk with a test of 5.91 and 281bs of fat per cow. The highest herd containing 50 cows averaged 361bs of fat per cow.
Kihikihi—43 herds totalling 2784 cows averaged 4781bs of milk with a test of 5.34 and 251bs of fat per cow. Three herds equalled for the highest average of 341bs of fat per cow. Otorohanga—lo9 herds totalling 6607 cows averaged 508Ibs of milk with a test of 5.12 and 261bs of fat per cow. The highest herd containing 66 cows averaged 381bs of fat per cow. Paterangi—3l herds totalling 2093 cow's averaged 5251bs of milk with a test of 5.51 and 291bs of fat per cow. The highest herd containing 68 cows averaged 401bs of fat per cow. Roto-o-Rangi—s6 herds totalling 3530 cows averaged 5121bs of milk with a test of 5.22 and 271bs of fat per cow. The highest herd containing 88 cows averaged 361bs of fat per cow.
Te Awamutu—37 herds totalling 2330 cow’s averaged 5221bs of milk, with a test of 5.19 and 271bs of fat per cow. Tw’o herds equalled the highest average of 351bs of fat per cow. Te Kawa—s9 herds totalling 3974 cows averaged 5031bs of milk with a test of 5.46 and 271bs of fat per cow. The. highest herd containing 67 cows averaged 391bs of fat per cow. Waerenga—s6 herds totalling 2972 cows averaged 4401bs of milk with a test of 5.01 and 221bs of fat per 'cow. The highest herd containing 74 cows averaged 3libs of fat per cow.
