FURTHER SUCCESSES

ROCHDALE MARCHING TEAM HAPPY TIME SPENT AT THE MOUNT. The Rochdale marching team by their successes at Mount Maunganui on the 3rd of January continues an unbroken series of triumphs in championship marching contests that is probably unrivalled in New Zealand. At the Mount, against strong competition they won the championship march, the other placed teams being Tauranga Pipe Band team 2, Rdbin Hood (Rotorua) 3. Miss Nola Morriss, leader of Rochdale also continued her winning way, being placed first in the best leader section. The leaders of Robin Hood and Tauranga Pipe Band team were second and third. The street march was won by Robin Hood (Rotorua), with Tauranga Pipe Band second and Tealethes (Cambridge) and Rochdale third. The Ascot team of Te Awamutu who mached very well was fourth. The Rochdale team was placed third in the ‘ costumes section, the major places being won by Tauranga Pipe l Band and Robin Hood. The Roehdale team consisted of Misses Nola Morriss (leader), Ruihi Duncan (marker), Pat Dymore Brown, Bernice Bowden, Josie McLeish, Ailsa Trask, Betty Adams, Elayne Southcombe, Marie Rigby, Mary Meldrum and Ngaire McLeish. The team welcomed back into their active ranks Miss Southcombe who has recently been ill. The team camped at the Mount for foul- days the ideal holiday weather that prevailed, with all the attractions of a seaside holiday enabled the girls to have a thoroughly enjoyable time. The girls are loud in their praise of the kindness of friends and supporters who loaned them camping gear and transport. Once again the congratulations of residents will be freely extended to the team on their latest successes and one can only say “Well done, Rochdale.” The team with the Ascots will travel to Tauranga on Saturday to participate in further competitions. Then follows a big marching contest at Te Awamutu with a visit to Auckland where the North Island Marching Championships will he held.
