Lack of Variety
Speaking about the losses on the working of t'he Railway refreshment rooms, Mi' Holland, at Te JCuiti, said that there was about as much variety in their ham sandwiches as there was in a sixpenny stamp. The quip was greatly enjoyed by the large audience.
£9OOO Per Bed A settlement 50 miles south of Auckland was desirous of having a 20 bed maternity hospital built in the district and asked the Auckland Hospital Board to help in the securing of that amenity, said Mr Holland at Te Kuiti yesterday. The speaker said they did not get the hospital, which was estimated to cost £lBO,OOO (including nurses’ home) or £9OOO per bed.
