RED CROSS FUNCTION Members of the Mangapiko Red Cross met at the home of Mrs Walter Alexander, on Tuesday afternoon to bid farewell to one of its most popular members, Mrs Syd White. In making Mrs White a presentation of a crystal vase as a parting gift from her fellow members, Mrs Alexander, the. president and Mrs Motzen, secretary, spoke in glowing terms of the work always so readily done for -Red Cross and the district generally by the guest of honour, and it was with regret that all present had met that afternoon to bid farewell to her. During the afternoon the guests enjoyed walking around the beautiful garden, one competition being held out-of-doors proved very interesting was won by Mrs Moltzen. A dainty afternoon tea was served and one and all expressed the hope that both Mr and Mrs White would be very happy in their new home at Mount Manganui. One of the guests present, was Mrs Wilkinson, Mayoress of Tauranga, who gave a very interesting talk on the early days at Mangipiko and concluded by stressing the need still for Red Cross work and hoped Mangapiko would carry on with the good work for which it was so weli-known. Mrs Wilkinson also spoke of the work that went overseas from Tauranga when the Lady Galway Committee was in existence, now that this committee had ceased the Red Cross around Tauranga and district were carrying on for this needy cause.
