Card Evening The Kawhia Parent and Teacher Association held a Five Hundred tournament in the Women’s Meeting Room on Wednesday last, when the prize-winners were Mrs Kelso Peat and Mr A. J. Goodwin. Kawhia Golf Club

There was a good attendance o/ players on the Kawhia golf links on Sunday, when a number of friendly matches were played. Local enthusiasts are looking eagerly forward to the forthcoming visit by members of the Raglan Club.

Dance at Maketu Pa Announced as “ the last dance under the benzine lights,” the Maoris held a fairly well-attended dance in the hall at Maketu Pa on Saturday evening. The music was supplied by Misses Daisy Ranga and Maud Hohua and Mr WJetini Tuteao, the latter also acting as master of ceremonies. Club Charters

It is anticipated that applications are likely to be made to the Licensing Control Commission for as many as six club charters in Te Kuiti, while a number of clubs in farming, milling, and mining townships are also certain to be interested in this matter. The Te Kuiti Workingmen’s Club has already made formal application for a charter.

Girl Severely Burnt A girl, Mildred Roberts, aged 13 years, of Miarokopa, was very severely and extensively burnt when her clothes caught fire while she Was heating milk over a spirit stove. She was dangerously ill when admitted to Te Kuiti Hospital, but after she had improved somewhat she -was removed to Waikato Hospital further treatment.

“ Virtually Untouched ” Keen disappointment was expressed at a meeting of the Wfaitomo County Council that so little land was, apparently, going to be set aside for development. After a discussion, in which the fact that only 20,000 acres of Maori land were scheduled to come under development within the next few years in the King Country was mentioned, the Council resolved to write to the Under-Secretary of Maori affairs pointing out that the area over which it was proposed to extend the Maori land development scheme means that the Maori land problem would remain virtually_un touch'd.
