FANCY DRESS BALL Those who predicted a very large attendance at the Children’s Fancy Dress Ball promoted by the teachers of the Pirongia Public School, had their anticipation fully realised, for the Hall was packed to its fullest capacity. After the grand march the children devoted an hour or so to the entertainment of the older folk. This consisted of folk dancing, nursery rhymes (acted), songs, recitation. Two sketches were staged in which the actors and actresses acquitted themselves very creditably. Mr Baker, headmaster of the school thanked all those who had helped to make the dance a success and oommended the parents on the interest they had displayed and the trouble they had gone to in ' the making of the fancy dresses. Mr Foster (chairman) in a few words, warmly congratulated the teachers (Mr Baker and Mr JHart, Miss Symons and Mrs Scriven) upon their splendid work in coaching the children to bring them to the state of efficiency displayed. After the children had concluded their programme they were entertained to a sumptuous supper and the floor was cleared for the adults who danced until midnight. Gift Evening

A gift evening promoted by the Social Club, was tendered to Mr and Mrs Blanchard in the Pirongia Hall on Tuesday 23rd. Mr P. Bell, as M.C. spoke of Mrs Bancltard (who is now residing in Te Awamutu) as a Pirongia girl and her many friends in this district could not let the occasion of her marriage pass without showing their appreciation of her help and

sympathy in the many activities of the district. On behalf of those present Mr Bell asked Mrs Blanchard to accept the fine array of presents with the best wishes of all. Mr Blanchard suitably responded. Two items by Miss P. Giles were received with applause and dancing under the baton of Mr Vercoe, was kept up till the early hours. Paddy’s Market A luncheon, afternoon tea and bring and buy stall was held in the Pirongia’ Hall last Wednesday in aid of the Crippled Children’s Fund. The sum of £ll 10s was raised by the effort. Winners of competitions were Mr Bagnall, Mrs J. Beet, Mr Barry and Mrs McGruther. Croquet Club Meeting The general meeting of the Croquet Club was held in the Hall on Wednesday afternoon when the committee was re-elected with the exception that Mrs Smith was elected president and Mrs Berry secretary. It was decided to open the courts in September and to advertise the date of the opening.
