Inquest into Death of Woman

An inquest into the death of Ruth McGregor Stone, aged 30, married, at Hamilton East on October 23 was concluded yesterday before the coroner (Mr A. G. Ward). Evidence was given by Senior-Detective W. R. Murray who set out briefly the result of police inquiries and produced a copy of the despositions in the recent criminal proceedings against Cecil Robert Gurr Otto, who was convicted and -mtenced to life imprisonment for murdering deceased. The coroner returned a finding: That Ruth McGregor Stone was murdered by Otto and that her death was caused by a bullet woundImportant Feature Keen to compete in the Dominion Brass Bands Championship Contest being held in Auckland next week, members of the Te Awamutu Municipal Band have been, over the past few months, actively engaged in the acquirement of an important feature of all meh competitions—funds. These have been derived mainly from members’ own contributions, though the band has been pleased to receive donations from interested citizens who have helped in this way. Efforts were made to hold Sunday concerts in the Empire Theatre towards the close of last year, but these were abandoned as public support was not encouraging and funds realised were not impressive.
