Presidential Election
According to the news from London received at 6 a.m., voting in the American elections were proceeding in what was termed fine Presidential election weather. The only complete return received up to that hour was received from a small outback village, where twelve voters exercised their democratic right. The result was: Dewey 11, Truman 1.
Electric Power Supply The Te Awamutu Electric Power Board is able to modify some of the restrictions on the use of electricity and an announcement to this effect should be noted by all consumers. It can be noted particularly that the waiving of restrictions is in anticipation that there will be public appreciation of some of the factors which make restriction necessary and that voluntary savings in demand will be regarded as an individual responsibility.
Long Journey for Children Discussing the itinerary for the Royal Visit, the Rotorua Chamber of Commerce was informed that tentative arrangements included the transport of some, children for 140 miles to spend a few minuts in Rotorua, and then retrace the 140 miles. A suggestion was made that Their Majesties should see the children early on the Tuesday afternoon of departure, so that the children would not have to rise so early for their long trip. The president said the present arrangement wouid involve' the children getting up at 1 a.m. Several members expressed the opinion that parents would refuse to let their children travel under such circumstances.
