BOY SCOUTS
LOCAL GROUP COMMITTEE REPORT INDICATES INCREASED INTEREST (By “Kim”) To tender the following report gives me great pleasure. It definitely shows that far more interest has been created in the Scout movement and more progress made by the local group committee and officers during this year than in the past. This covers both meetings, September and October, at which there was a good attendance presided over by Mr Salmond. Great interest was shown when the president made it known that a section had been offered at Land Sales value. The section is situated in Sloane Street and was offered by Mr G. H. Fayne. It was unanimously agreed to purchase same; the section to be invested in the name of Boy Scout Association, N-Z. Branch Incorporated. It is intended that the group raise the necessary money to build the hall. Already a bottle drive has been held. St Patricks Group gave a helping hand thus enabling us to complete the drive in half the time. “Thank you St Patricks.” Donations to the value of £32 10s toward the building have been received in the past four weeks. Names of the donors will be published later. We also have the sum of £lOO in National Savings towards the building fund. The screening of the Scout Jamboree film was largely attended, not only in Te Awamutu, but Otorohanga and Te Kuiti as well. A discussion on how to obtain more officers took place. More officers are required, both in the Cub and Scout sections. It is hoped with the growing interest that we will soon have offers of help from those who have time to give to the lads of our group.
