BOROUGH BOUNDARY
FRONTING TE RAHU AND CAMBRIDGE ROAD AREAS QUESTION OF EXTENSION TO BE CONSIDERED , I It was resolved at Tuesday meeting of Te Awamutu Chamber >f Commerce that a meeting of residents of Te Rahu and Cambridge Road areas be sponsored by the Chamber to introduce the question of these areas returning to the borough of Te Awamutu. Mr A. G. Warburton, who brought forward the proposal, said the time had arrived when it was in the public interest for some impersonal body to convene a meeting at which the nuestion of borough boundaries could be considered.
'“ If you look at the map you see that the borough is lop-sided,” commented Mr Warburton. “It will extend perhaps 1J miles in a westerly direction and one mile to the east, but in the northern direction the borough nroceeds only a few chains from the Post Office.” The factors which decided that the Ohaupo Road - Cambridge Road areas should be outside the borough no longer obtained. There had been a substantial increase in the number of houses there which required the facilities the borough could provide, and which now had to be installed by the residents themselves. It was recognised that equalisation of rates would be a question to be considered.
W|hen the borough was formed, continued Mjr Warburton, the area on the northern side of Miangahoe Stream was included within its boundaries. It was one of the rating areas pledged for the first water loan, and also for a street-sealing loan. On later agitation the locality was excluded from the borough, and assessment was made for payment on the water and sealing loans. Mr G. Clarke commented that with closer settlement there were too many septic tanks in Te Rahu and Cambridge Road areas. There were no sewerage facilities, and drainage was poor.
