BEAUTIFYING SOCIETY

FORTHCOMING FLORAL FETE MEETING OF COMMITTEE Those present at the last meeting of the Te Awamutu Beautifying Society were Mr M. H. Williams (president), Mesdames M. Dawson and A. Kay, Messrs S. Clark, J. A. Marx, R. Godfree, H. Hawley, T. C. Rae, F. S. Mason, G. F. Reynolds, and E. Williams. The secretary, Mr T. H. Millar, was also present. An apology was received and sustained on behalf of Mr P. S. Page. President’s Report

The president submitted the following report, which was adopted on the motion of Messrs Reynolds and Marx:—

During the month a working bee was held on Saturday, 18th at the basketball area of the Memorial Park for the purpose of grassing the areas planted. The weather was unfavourable and the sowing was not completed on the day. A small party worked in the morning and a similar party in the afternoon, but intermittent rain slowed down the work. However, the sowing was completed during the following week. I can now report that there is a good “take” and if you desire the area to be interspersed with Buffalo grass it must be done immediately. Our best thanks are recorded to Mr F. S. Mason who personally rotary-hoed the whole area and made the task' much easier. The traffic filter plots have been completed with nemophilla and should provide a good show prior to summer planting. A highlight of the month was the first inspection of the 28 garden entries in our Garden Cup competitions. As judge’s associate, I, with Mr W. J. Melville as organiser, accompanied Mr T. R. Birdsall the appointed judge. Let me say at once it was a day of pure delight—the gardens were in excellent condition, and quite a number will be in the top flight. We are indeed fortunate to have the services of such a competent and expert adjudicator. The results of this inspection have been sealed' and deposited with Mr T. H. Millar (Town Clerk). Floral Fete An informal discussion took place regarding arrangements for the floral fete to be held in November, the arrangements for the various events being placed in the hands of the same persons as at last year’s fete. It was resolved that the marquee . of the same size as last year be again procured and that the services of the Otorohanga Pipe Band be engaged as well as the Te Awamutu Municipal Band.

. It was arranged that the president take charge of publicity and Mr Mason to assist with the distribution of the posters.
