CRICKET

WAIPA ASSOCIATION MANAGEMENT COMMITTEE MEETS The Management Committee of the Waipa Cricket Association met on Wednesday evening, Mr L. W. Arnold presiding, those present being Messrs D. Ramsbottom (Te Awamutu), J. Tarr (Kaipaki), J. Cooper (Tokanui), L. Westgate (Kihikihi), G. Bainbridge (Paterangi), E. Campbell (Korakonui), W. Haycock (Frontier Road), and J. White (secretary). An apology was received from the Te Awamutu College delegate. The following teams were nominated for this season’s competition:— Kaipaki, Paterangi, Frontier Road, Te Awamutu Wanderers, Te Awamutu Rovers, Te Awamutu College, Kihikihi, Tokanui, and Korakonui. The draw for the first series of games resulted:— A. Section: Te Awamutu Wanderers v. Te Awamutu Rovers, Frontier - Road v. Kaipaki, Paterangi a bye. B. Section: Tokanui v. Te Awamutu College, Kihikihi v. Korakonui. The draw and grounds allotted to each game will be published in next Wednesday’s Courier.

Playing fees were fixed for the season at Is per player each Saturday, with the exception of Te Awamutu College, whose charge is 3d per player, and Tokanui nil. The affiliation fee is unaltered at £2 2s per team nominated.

The Association is again indebted to the Tokanui Hospital for the use of their picturesque ground for one club match each Saturday. The ground is also available for representative matches. We are very fortunate in having this ground in our area, as it is one of the best grounds in the Auckland Province.

Unfortunately wet weather has hindered the work at Albert Park. Club mfembers are endeavouring to get the three wickets in order, and given a. fine week-end these should be in good condition for the opening day. With the outfields in better order than last season, cricket should get away to a good start. The mowing of the outfields by the Borough Council is to commence this week.

Application has been made to the Waikato Cricket Association for an allocation of petrol for clubs. Petrol is available to Kaipaki, Paterangi, Frontier Road, and Korakonui clubs, but not for representative matches. Clubs who are on bus routes or in close proximity to the playing area are not elegible for an allocation. The following are to be co-opted into assisting the Association officially:—Umpires: Messrs A. Betts, G. R. Pacey, C. Haberfield, H. Owens, and E. Bedford; Scorers: Messrs T. H. White and W. Haycock. The possibility of providing score boards and sight screens is to be investigated. It has been a practice in the past, of some players not wearing shirts on public playing areas. After a short discussion a motion was carried “that all players must keep their shirts on, on the playing fields”. The wearing of shorts or flannels is optional. The representative team will be visiting Te Kuiti and Taumarunui in February, while Hamilton are due here in December. It is possible that Otorohanga may be visiting us in January. Waipa are present holders of the Waikato Shield and are keen to maintain their splendid record. The hours for play remain unaltered. All teams are asked to be on their grounds ready for play to commence at 10.30 a.m. sharp. The lunch break is taken from 12.30 to 12.50. Stumps will be drawn at 3 p.m. If any team is late, the opposing captain may (if it is to his advantage) claim, before play commences, extra time on that day. The time agreed to must be played to. In regards reporting of results in the Courier, all teams playing at Albert Park are to leave their books in the room under the grandstand, and teams playing at Tokanui are to ring their results through to the president, Mr L. W- Arnold, as soon as possible after stumps are drawn. Results and a resume wfl be published in Monday’s Courier. The Association is to investigate the possibility of having results broadcast when the new Station at Hamilton is opened.
