and New Zealanders should think of themfeelves as a people of 9,000,000, not as separate countries, said Sir Keith Murdoch, chairman of directors of the “Melbourne Herald,” recently. “The weakness of Europe and the heart of the Empire is terribly serious for us,” Sir Keith Murdoch said. “The integration of our two countries need not have a political application. The real issue is getting our peoples to regard themselves as part of a whole. Joint action should be expressed in a definite policy of reciprocal trade, and eventually there should be a good case for inter-Dominion preference. The Anzac Pact should ensure equal unity with Britain and the United States. Good relations with America can be overlooked only at our peril.”
