AMONG GREAT COMPANY
GROWERS OF WHEAT DOING SOMETHING ABOUT , WORLD’S PROBLEM “To be a wheat grower to-day is to be among the great company of those who not only realise the importance of the world’s problem, but who are doing something about it. There has never been a time when the need has been mote urgent for ‘putting the hand to the plough.’ ” These words were used by the chairman of the (Aid for Britain National Council, Mr F. P. Walsh, in a special message to wheat growers. He expressed appreciation of the manner in which farmers, particularly in the principal grain growing districts of the South Island, were supporting the effort being made to increase the country’s wheat production. The wheat growers were making a fine response, despite many difficulties. The pledges made by both North and South Island growers were being honoured. The National Council had been informed that autumn sowings had come away well and that there was evidence that many farmers ware preparing for spring sowing.
