Television Prospects

Television should be commercially possible in New Zealand in a very few years, in the opinion of Mr E. A. Burbury, an expert witness for the Australian Radio Technical and Patents Company, in evidence before the Patents Commission. Whether it would be available in that time was another matter, dependent on what was done about it in New Zealand. “I have the highest regard for New Zealand radio men,” said Mr Burbury. “They are equal to technical men anywhere..” Costs, Not Fashion “Costs more than fashion’s trend were the principal cause of dwellings being erected with lower studs, and that was most noticeable after the First World War,” said a builder when giving evidence to the Land Sales Court at Hamilton last week. The witness was being closely questioned concerning a house with a 12ft stud, built several years ago, and as to the general practice nowadays of building homes with a stud of 9ft. Mr E. M. MacKersey commented that so great was the shortage of materials that it was most unlikely a permit w’ould be issued to-day for a dwelling with a 12ft stud, even if the owner desired it.
