OIL CONSUMPTION
QUESTIONS ASKED IN PARLIAMENT NECESSITY OF FREQUENT CHANGES DOUBTED Are New Zealand motorists getting the right oil on lubrication? Are they going to unecessary expense and trouble and wasting valuable dollar exchange? asks the New Zealand “Truth.” Such is the inference contained in a question to be asked in Parliament by Dr A. M. Finlay (member for North Shore) who requires to know from the Minister of Transport: (1) Whether the Minister is aware of investigations carried out in America during the war, which indicated that it is not necessary to change the oil in motor-car engines every thousand miles, as is commonly done in this country, and that at that point the oil, far from deteriorating, has actually improved as a lubricant? (2) Whether he has considered the applications of these findings to New Zealand conditions; and if so. what steps does he recommend to reduce any excessive consumption of oil in this country, with a consequent saving of dollar?
