WAIKATO CAMP

TO BENEFIT FROM SALE OF HEALTH STAMPS STATEMENT BY CHAIRMAN OF EXECUTIVE COMMITTEE Mr W. H. Paul, chairman of the Waikato district executive committee of the New Zealand Federation of Health Camps, said this week that although the Waikato Children’s Camp League was not a member of the federation of health camps, satisfactory arrangements had been made with the Auckland central council for children from the Waikato district, recommended by the medical officer of health at Hamilton, in future to be -taken to Port Waikato under the health camp scheme. The Waikato Children’s Camp League had agreed to keep the children in camp for six weeks, instead of three weeks, and to comply with the wishes of the district medical officer of health in the spacing of the beds—each bed to be six feet apart, instead of about four and a-half feet to five feet as formerly. This, of course, would mean that fewer children would be taken to camp at one time, and also during the school holidays only one camp would be held instead of two, added Mr Paul. However, this would be very largely overcome by the Waikato committee having the right to keep full, 20 beds in the new permanent health camp, which it was hoped would be opened in Auckland early next year. The health stamp campaign this year will be from October Ist, 1948, to January 31st, 1949.
