ENGINEER’S REPORT WORK DONE LAST MONTH The engineer Mr B*. McKenzie, in the course of his monthly report to Otorohanga County Council on Monday, stated, among other things:— Regarding maintenance work, a total of 227 cubic yards was handled in Honikiwi riding, 113 cubic yards in Mangaorongo, 191 cubic yards in Te Rau-a-Moa, 165 cubic yards in Waipa, and 437 cubic yards in Wharepa»Ja. The total yardage for the county was 1133. The following roads were graded during the month: Honikiwi Riding: Honokiwi M.H., Otorohanga-Pirongia, Owaikura, Kio Kio Station, Ouruwhero, Waitomo Valley. Mangaorongo: Mlangaorongo M.H., Paewhenua Maihihii, Rangiatea. Te Rau-a-Moa: Ouruwhero M.H., Cannon’s, OtorohangaPirongia, Owaikura, Scott’s, PirongiaNgutunui M.H., Kikurangi, Ouruwhero, Pekanui, Tiheroa. Waipa: Te Kuiti M.H., Otewa, Waipa River, Mangawhero, Tahaia Cross, Whawhatua. W.harepapa: Wharepuhunga M.IL, Happy Valley, Hingaia, Lethbridge’s, Ngaroma, Cottle’s, Kinzett’s, Lawry’s, Loop. At the Lakes 150 cubic yards of shingle were scooped for Honikiwi M.H., 30 for Ouruwhero Road, 70 for Waitomo Valley, 70 for Mangaorongo M.H., 60 for Otorohanga-Pirongia, 35 for Puketawai and 70 for Te RaUmauku. The plant was shifted to the county yard on 24th instant, and 65 cubic yards were scooped for Mangaoronga MIH. and 70 for Rangiatea Road. The plant has now been dis-, mantled for overhaul and repair.
A new model super A International tractor to which can be fitted a “ Hiway ” mower will be available shortly for use in scrub-cutting. The price of the tractor is not yet known but the “ Hiway ” mower is £lO4 18s 6d. The previous price for the tractor was £370 15s f.o.r. Auckland.
Owing to a great increase in petrol consumption by the trucks, due to the use of the loader, an increase in the petrol license was applied for, and a new license for 1750 gallons a month has been issued.
A price for cleaning the Mangao-rongo-Ngahape drain has been received from Mr H. R. Cooper. Council Discusses Report
Regarding the scrub-cutting machine, the Council decided, on the motion of Crs Grierson and Walters, to leave the matter in the hands of the engineer to make further inquiries. Referring to the scoop, the engineer said that one scoop was unable to tope with all the work. Although the matter was urgent he had been unable to get another scoop. The Council decided to leave the matter of cleaning the IVTangaorongoNgahape drain in the hands of the riding member and the engineer for further discussion with the tenderer.
